: Butter Question
: sbdriver January 21, 2016, 06:33:11 PM
Hoping some of you ladies can help me out. I'm trying to totally switch over to using butter only. My question is how do you store it so it's not rock hard if you have to use it and not have time to set it out.

I know some people just leave it out but I'm thinking since it has cream in it then it has to be kept cold.

I know lol no question is a dumb question  ::)

On the counter here, too.  My main source comes in one pound blocks so I get one out at a time.  A butter bell also works, though I rarely bother with mine any more.

Catherine dare I ask what a butter bell is? Never heard of that before either lol. Oh the sheltered life I lead  :o

I leave mine out on the counter, too.  I have a butter dish with a lid so I keep a stick in there and keep the rest of the pound in the fridge.   When the butter in the dish is nearly gone, I take out another stick and set it on the counter so it is soft.  I also save the wrappers in a baggie in the fridge and use them to grease baking pans, etc.

Scroll down at this site and this shows you how it works.  I have an inexpensive one but it's the same shape and principle.  But I really only use it during the hottest months, if that.  We go through butter fairly quickly around here.

Butter doesn't last long on the counter around here (attachment)!  But hey, let's be honest, neither does any other food ;D

Yes!  Can't tell you how many times I've caught Pumpkin licking the butter.   And Buck picks the wrappers out of the trash to lick.

I got a nice covered stoneware butter dish at the thrift store for $4. You may want to check there.

Yes!  Despite FREQUENT cleaning, non-pet owners would probably be utterly horrified by the things in my kitchen that have been licked by Grimm  ;D :o :P

Several years ago, we were considering getting a dog that was part black lab and part coonhound.  We had him here for a few days and one day, I put a stick of butter on the counter to soften for something I was making for dinner.  I went to switch out my laundry and, when I came back, the butter was gone, except for one small piece of the wrapper!  The dog just looked at me and his expression basically said "I am just as confused as you are about where that butter went".  😄😄
