Hello!! Anyone here these days?
Looks like everyone is very busy, dropped like flies, or some other reason!
I'll tell you why I have been missing for a long time. My husband has not been well due to some intestinal issues. This problem turned into an urgent need and finding a doctor (due to the specific nature of what needed to be done) we ended up having to go to Los Angeles, California. Surgery was scheduled for within a week of our call for help and we arranged like maniacs to fly there and get the problem taken care of. What should have been about 9 or 10 days turned into 3 weeks plus a day of a hospital stay. No fun. He had all kinds of setbacks and it was better to be there than back in Michigan only to have to fly back out there. So we stuck around, in the hospital for a long time. This was the last part of August into the mid to late part of September.
So much happened at home while we were gone and our son was there to handle a lot of it. The most bothersome part was that our family cat died during our absence. We think she died of a broken heart when mom and dad left one day and never came back. I sad tho think we are responsible for this. But i do know she was geriatric and had a heart problem. She also had difficulty breathing when the weather changed from warm to that cool, clammy, damp time and that could also have been a contributing factor. Our son is a hero in that he took good care of her during this time and even gave her a nice burial with some picture for us because we needed to be part of this.
We're home but my husband's recovery is surprisingly slow. I have no idea why. Over the last few years I notice that he has become a lot more frail and needs a lot more rest but blood work doesn't show anything alarming. It did show he is malnourished and he needed some potassium and Vit. B12. The malnourished part surprised me but then again I noticed he is frail and he's only 58 years old. He retired from his job almost 7 years ago and that's when it all started. He is quite skinny and bony. I think it is an eating disorder because he tells me "I eat what my body needs" but it's just not enough to put him in the healthy state.
So I missed almost the entire month of September and now we're entering the colder, rainy, damp and dark months. My dad's garden didn't produce so well this year so we weren't able to freeze much at all (besides, we weren't even here in Sept. to do so) but mom did freeze a few bags of carrots for us. She gave me some canned tomatoes she put up as well as some pickle relish and one cabbage. Also, a couple of jars of grape juice. That was very kind of her and my dad.
Tell me what have you been up to all summer? Would love to hear your adventures!
