: Shortening substitute

I am wanting to make a batch of refrigerator dough, but the recipe calls for shortening.  I never buy it.  I have butter and lard I can use as a substitute.  Which do you think would be best?  I'll be using this dough to make pizza crusts and dinner rolls, maybe hamburger buns too.

I ended up subbing coconut oil for the shortening and no one noticed.  The dough was a little hard to handle when I first removed it from the refrigerator, but I left it sitting in the bowl on the counter to come to room temperature, then it was easy to roll into pizza crust.   I used some of the dough to make dinner rolls last night, and will use the rest to make garlic breadsticks.

Spectrum Palm Shortening is a good substitute when baking.  :)
