Good Morning, everyone! And Happy New Year!

We had a nice week mostly together with family but some had to work part of the time. Our youngest child has been home for about 3 weeks and she's getting "antsy" again. She is ready to get out of the home and on to other things. She gets that way and needs a lot more stimulation that what we can provide. So, today she goes back to college and into her apartment and that's a good thing for us at home.

Our oldest goes back to Honduras on Friday morning to finish her school year until June. Our son will stay home with us other than working two jobs where he goes to live with my brother on weekends for the one job. I'm already at work and hubby starts a new job this new year as well. I hope everyone can find what they are looking for this year and finally be settled!

We had a lot of good home made meals out of the freezer stock and pantry. I saved a lot of special little things for the Christmas events and we made a huge dent in all the goodies. Not snacky type food but regular meals. We had saved a turkey, a ham, and steak! We had our steak last night and it was so good! Along with risotto from an Italian recipe and roasted veggies. The pantry has been reduced in size from a packed one to a picked through one!  I even made a New Years' breakfast yesterday and my kids snapchatted a photo with a note that said "best breakfast ever" and all it was was baked french toast and bagels/sausage/egg/cheese sandwiches.  All from the freezer. All needed to be used up. Oh, and starbucks coffee that I found one package of sometime in December!

I got all my paperwork sorted for taxes and rotated out of the filing cabinet to make room for the 2018 paperwork/receipts and other that will be coming in. I got a lot of laundry done for the kids to help them get ready to move where they need to go. I mended a lot of clothing. My son purchased Carhart pants just this early fall for work and there are holes already starting where his legs rub together. I really don't think Carhart should be doing that already. I decided to patch them up from the inside and so he can wear them some more but I'm disappointed in those pants. He really needs a reinforced crotch area because he moves around a lot at both of his jobs.

I also sorted through the pantry combining like items and the same with the medicine cabinet. Kids needed to get things to take with them so I took some inventory and found everything they need. Even the wax paper, aluminum foil, saran wrap cupboard was heavily used a lot of stuff ran out. I have extras so it was just a matter of refilling stuff. I do need to get some olive oil as that is truly gone.We finished up lots of half used bottles of this and that all over the house including shampoos/conditioners, etc.

My first abbreviated run to the store was on Jan. 1 to get just a few things to get us by. I was surprised how many stores were closed on Jan. 1. I don't remember stores being closed so much. I always seem to need something on Jan. 1 and have never run into a closed store yet but yesterday I did. But we ended up at Walmart and the shelves were pretty much empty. I needed a few fresh items but the shelves pretty much had nothing. At least I got what I needed--milk!

I have yet to take down my Christmas decorations and I might just do that tonight. We have enjoyed that so much and my oldest really likes it so maybe I will wait until she leaves on Friday and do it after she goes back home. My bay window will seem so bare when I take it down. I need an idea of how to decorate the bay window after Christmas decorations are gone. I have Dutch lace valances with white lights in them up at the top of the window and I keep those on all year round. They are on a timer so they go on and off by themselves. I think I want a small lamp on the window also and I guess I'll have to look around for something else. The cats do jump up there so I need something they won't knock over.

That's it for my weekend! How was yours?

Alice

Well, here we are!  2018!

Hope everyone's Holiday season was full of blessings.  Have you set New Years Resolutions?  I am hoping that many of you who stop in and read have resolved to take a minute to post at least a couple times a week!   ;)  Would love to see you and hear about your days and your lives!

(I am still contemplating my NY resolutions.  Any ideas for me??)

My Holidays were lovely.  Spent time with all my boys and our new daughter in law.  My middle son got engaged on New Year's Eve! We love his fiancee, and are so happy for them.

We stayed home NYE. We were invited to a get together, but I just wanted to stay in my sweats all day and chill out.  So, that's just what we did.  It felt good after a busy season of commitments!  I didn't even make it to the ball drop.  We actually celebrated when Germany hit midnight and again when England ushered in the New Year, so that was good enough for me!

It has been crazy cold in these parts.  And this weekend, we are going up north to a ski resort.  We will be snowshoeing, and doing a rafting excursion. I'm sure it will be cold.  I need to find all of our winter outdoor gear.  I'm sure it will be fun.  It is a media outing, so we will see a lot of our friends that are in the business with hubs.  The only thing I think I need is a pair of warm gloves.  I have gloves, but they never seem to be warm enough.  I might go later today and see if I can find some.  I have a few gift cards that I got for Christmas, so maybe I can use one of those.

Today I need to finish vacuuming.  I got most of it done when we took down the tree, but we blew a fuse while I was doing it, and I ended up moving on to some other activity by the time we fixed it.  I just have a little to finish up.  Silly!

Hubs is back to work after having the last 2 weeks off.  I'm sure it will be an adjustment for him.  He actually was really good about unplugging this go round.  That isn't always the case when he has "time off".  Usually he still spends a lot of time with work things.  He actually started reading a book!  (kind of work related, but still - quiet down time).  A guy we know wrote a book that is being made into a movie.  It is called 12 Strong.  Hubs is going to do an interview with him about the book and movie, and wanted to read it before talking to him, so he has been reading that.  Looks like a pretty intense story.  It is about the days after 9-11 when some military men went into Afghanistan, and they had to use horses to get where they were going. War movies and stories are not my taste, too graphic and scary for me.  Might have to go see this one since we know the author of the book though.  I think it comes to theaters sometime this month.

We are actually going to see a movie again late this afternoon.  We are seeing "All The Money In The World"  Looks interesting.  I think it will be up for some awards. We try to see a good amount of the movies that are up for the Oscars.  I like movies that are based on true life.  We have been going to a lot of movies lately.  In Michigan in the Winter, there isn't that much to do.  Unless you are a skier or snowmobiler ( we are not!) We do get outdoors some with snowshoeing, but indoors is my preference in the winter!  Hibernation would be even better in my opinion!!
Any way: here are some of the movies we have seen as of late:
Coco -- LOVED it!
Ferdinand -- cute, and I liked it because it was one of my favorite childhood stories.
Pitch Perfect 3 -- I really liked it. Hubs kinda liked it.  I enjoyed the music in it
3 Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri -- to artsy for me. Good, but no resolution in the ending
Star Wars - The Last Jedi -- I enjoyed it, and I'm not a big SW fan.  Really good story.
The Man Who Invented Christmas -- I likes this one a lot.  The whole based on a true story.  And A Christmas Carol.
So, those are my reviews if anybody is interested!   :D

Having a 15 bean soup for dinner.  It is a instant pot recipe, but I think I will just throw it in the crockpot now and have it taken care of.
Hope everyone has a great day!  Would love to hear from you.
