Managing a Household / Tuesday, May 28

Good morning!

I’m about to head out the door to run to the post office.  Just wanted to get this started before I leave.  Since Emily won’t be homeschooling anymore, I’ve been selling our books and I have a package to mail this morning.

I’ll check back in with you when I get home.

Good Morning, Jennie!

We woke up to a nice cool morning and the sun is shining here as well!

We did a ton of sorting with my daughter this weekend and the trash bin is full as well as the recycling boxes. I did a ton of laundry this weekend and got that all folded and put away this morning. I have a load ready to go and I'm looking at my winter jackets deciding if I want to wash them or not. The problem is that it is thread bare and if I wash it it might fall apart. I've got the clothes all switched  out to summer things and the winter clothes all put away.

I decided to buy my herb plants instead of seeds this year. I was not going to do flowers but decided to do a few petunias anyway. Just needed that pop of color! I planted those this  morning and everything is in pots since I don't have a garden. The lawn needs to be mowed but it is very wet from the morning dew. Will  need to wait til this afternoon.

I have some hamburgers and hotdogs and brats to grill this afternoon. There is some leftover pasta salad and garlic bread so I won't be adding anything to the menu. It's just the two of us for now and our son comes home from his weekend of work later today so I want some food for him. He was asked to work today with holiday pay and double time so that was a no brainer, he decided to work.

That's it for me today.

Good morning, everyone! We woke up to SUNSHINE!! I can hardly believe it! I don't think it will last all day, but I'll sure enjoy it while it does. We had a great time watching the Indy 500 yesterday with the kids. What an exciting finish!!

Not too much on the agenda today - trying to keep things simple and relaxing. I have most of the laundry caught up, so I'll wash a load or two, then spend some time planning a small quilt project. My neglected sewing machine stares at me silently, wondering why I don't give it attention anymore!! ;) Something is out of whack when I don't have time for crafting. It was such an important part of my life for many years.

Dinner tonight is currently undecided. Maybe hamburger patties or a taco salad. Whatever sounds good at the time! I'd like to drop 10 lbs so I'm trying to plan meals more carefully.

Have a great day!

Yes, I used a 9 x 13 pan and cut it in half horizontally. Then put ice cream in the middle and topped with the other half. I didn't frost mine but I suppose you could. I does get a bit sloppy so layered the cake in a 9 x 13 plastic container and that way it was all contained in case it  started to melt before I could get it into the freezer. But it is really delicious.

Alice, a couple of questions:

Did you bake the cake in a 9 x 13 pan?
Did you frost the cake?

Thanks!
Jennie (who now seriously wants some ice cream cake) :D

Busy busy is what I would describe they day.

It's Sunday now but yesterday we cleaned out the outbuilding/barn that was fixed this week. We got everything put back in order and that is a good feeling. It was a bit humid after all the rain we had overnight. We got it all done before it rained again.

I went to the dr. for my pollen allergy that made a big rash on my face and arms. I get this every year around the time of pollen and I always get this big rash and hives. It takes a prescription of steroids to get that to move out of my body. I'm starting to feel better already.

I only got a few groceries as I'm trying to eat from the freezer. But you have to have fresh milk and other fresh things. So I made baked fried chicken, baked beans (from a can since the homemade ones failed), garlic bread and a pasta salad.

Our almost-married kids came in from Ohio for a wedding this weekend so we had a nice visit with them. They are headed back today. It is always nice when they visit. My daughter cleaned out her room since she's getting married and is deciding what to take with her, what to get rid of and what to give away. There was so much stuff from high school and college just stuffed away. It is so nice to have that taken care of. Plus I am readying her room as a new guest room. We removed her twin bed and put in a queen sized for them when they visit and any other guests that we might have in the future. All the dresser drawers are cleaned out and ready for a cleaning. She isn't taking it all with her yet as they still are finding a place to live when they get married but it's a start.

I;m just glad we have an extra day off tomorrow. My husband and I both have not felt well this week and need to get better. Hubby has a cold and I just had the allergy thing along with a colonoscopy this week so I need to get my stomach back to normal digestion.

No recipe but I have made one using a recipe I made up.

I just baked a boxed cake mix. Let it cool and cut it in half. I layered softened ice cream on one half and then put the top back on. Place in the freezer until fully frozen.

I'm looking for a super easy recipe for an ice cream cake, preferably chocolate cake. This is my favorite kind of cake, but I don't want to pay the high price for store-bought. Do you have a recipe or link to share?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Cheryl and everyone reading! Today is busy with household tasks: laundry, dishes, groceries ... you know the drill. The day started out sunny, but now we have a thunderstorm. It seems we can't one complete dry day to get the outside tasks done.

Some of the kids are coming over for dinner tonight for spaghetti, salad, and garlic bread.

Off to start the laundry. Have a good day!
