I'll have to think about my October budget. Rather than focusing on a number, I'm trying to concentrate on saving money in the kitchen. I'm going to be using my slow cooker a lot, and have been looking for some new recipes to try in addition to the ones I always make--chili; vegetable soup; sloppy joes; spaghetti sauce; chicken & vegetables; etc. Once I have a clearer plan for where I can be more efficient in saving money and time, I'll come back and post my October budget.

Blessings,
Jennie

I am going for $360 in October. I am thinking of splitting it to $80 a week and see what happens.

I'm in for $200, food only.  Pet food, chicken feed, etc. will come out of separate budget.

360/4=90, doesn't it? Duh! So, that's $90 per week.

Hey Susan,

I would say 360/4 is $80 because that would leave $10 per week just for you! I think your division was perfectly done!

Alice

P.S. I may just try something like $280 per month. So, $280/4=$60 and I get the rest. Yup, I'm going to do this.

Have you ever had a few bucks in your wallet thinking "I have a couple extra bucks for whatever" and then wham you look for it realizing one of the kids needed it and your wallet is empty?  This happens to me all the time!

I'm setting my October budget at $400. I had originally thought of $375, but we have two birthdays in October so there will be extra expense with cake and ice cream, etc. The $400 includes all groceries, toiletries, paper goods, etc.

Forgot that I have the opportunity to go to Aldi mid-October (this only happens 2-3 times a year). I usually add in an extra $100 to the monthly budget to cover this stock-up trip. So, I'm changing my October budget to $400.

I am setting some strategies in place and I am so excited. I am planning on storing all of my receipts together in a clear, plastic page protector along with a sheet of paper listing my totals. I want to start keeping one for every month. This way l can look back and see what I spent six months ago, etc. Perhaps I will log in what our meals were too on another sheet. Hopefully this will help keep things consistently low.

Susan, I think the type of record keeping you're suggesting will be very helpful. I just found an old weekly grocery list I had typed and printed. It must be 6+ years old because I was still buying diapers.  ;)  I'm going to modify it somewhat and see if I can create a new weekly list to help keep my costs down and cut back on some of the impulse purchases.

Looking over old lists are a lot of fun!

The scary ones are where I've recorded prices--it's amazing to see how much prices have gone up in a relatively short period of time!  :o

Good idea!  I am interested to hear how that plays out for you.  In fact, I might try it myself.
