Lots of pride in my home town!
« on: June 20, 2016, 11:09:40 AM »
  Hello ladies,
I just have to share this with you all. I have a coworker who has a 6 year old child who was born with a severe heart problem. Over the years, this child has had numerous surgeries. The last one was last fall. They had hoped it would be his last, but because of the procedure, he developed plastic bronchitis. They have almost lost him several times because of his coughing up casts which block his airway. They have been to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City dozens of times. They went to Mayo in Minnesota. Finally they went to Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania. Hopefully the problem is now fixed.
Our tiny community rallied around this family. We all bought Team Aiden tee-shirts, had a bake sale, had a benefit dinner, had an awesome auction, local businesses and even Buffalo Wings in St. Joe gave a percentage of their sales on certain days. Ladies, our community of under 1000 raised over $15,300 for this family. ;D
Aiden wanted to ride on a fire truck, so our volunteer fire department met him and his family at the Oregon Exit as they were getting home from CHOPS. The fire trucks got in front and behind them and gave them a 7 mile escort. There were lots of people waiting in down town Oregon for Aiden's arrival. He was so overwhelmed and could not believe that all this was for him. The fire department had a special coat and helmet made for him and found a small enough pair of boots. He is now an honorary member of the Oregon Volunteer Fire Department. I am telling you, there was not a dry eye in Oregon last night. I just had to share about the amazing community of Oregon, MO that I come from.

Blessings,
Winona

I also posted this on the Homesteading Facebook page, but did not want to type it all out again so I copied and pasted it.  ;)
